Spring bluebell fairy

At long last spring is arriving and the bluebells will soon be flowering. In anticipation I have begun painting a fairy tryptic, this bluebell fairy is the first of the three.

A Commision of Severnside South in Progress

I am currently working on a painting of Severnside South in Bewdley. It is a large painting in gouache and I have set the scene in spring. I want to add some more flowers in the foreground, perhaps daffodils and tulips; then develop the detail of the houses with bricks and tiles. The painting is […]

A new painting of the village of Polperro harbour

A visit to Polperro in Cornwall inspired this painting. It’s a small atmospheric painting in gouache. The boat in the foreground is called “Blue Fin” and I chose to use the colours of blues and greens expressively. I also add movement with flowing ripples in the water, birds flying and clouds in the sky as […]

Liverpool Docks

I began this painting of Liverpool docks a few years ago and I shall be visiting Liverpool again tomorrow; where I shall take some more photographs and sketch the docks. Although this gouache painting is nearly finished I think that I will add a few more boats.

Commission of Robin Hood’s Bay in Yorkshire

A variety of commissions continues to keep my job interesting. This small painting of Robin Hood’s bay was a pleasure to do because I drew upon memories of a visit there, which I had some years ago with my family.

High tide at Porthleven

The sea is so wild and choppy at high tide in Porthleven harbour. The splashing sound of the waves lapping against the harbour walls and the sea mist really add to the atmosphere.

Dancing by some Standing Stones in Cornwall

A few weeks ago I had fun collaborating with my friend and photographer Sharon Aston. The atmosphere dancing by the stones was very mystical. We thought that we would share this photo today to mark Imbolc or Imbolg which is a Gaelic traditional festival. It marks the beginning of spring and for Christians, it is […]

A ship at Cape Cornwall

The wild sea and rugged coastline of Cape Cornwall is romantic and mysterious. I didn’t see this ship with the red sails on the horizon but imagined it sailing along the coastline, blown by the wind.

Starlight

Discovering places and scenes gives me new material to work with and this boat in the foreground called “Starlight” motivated me to paint this painting of Cadgwith in Cornwall. The bunting helped to set the scene and enhance the perspective.

The Changing Landscape

I was very excited to have my article published in the latest edition of The Margaret Morris Movement International dance magazine. In the article I explain how the “The changing Landscape” projest of dance, art, theatre design and costume making was developed at Chichester University last summer. The end of the project culminated in a […]
