Landscape with a rainbow

Landscape with a rainbow

There was the most beautiful rainbow a few weeks ago set over the houses that I could see from our bedroom window, which inspired this painting. This painting could be described as “naive” in style; flat and brightly coloured and which I created out of my imagination rather than using photographic reference. I particularly enjoyed painting the geese and blackbirds. We don’t keep chickens but my family used to when I was growing up in the countryside. I have fond memories of them crouching down to be picked up and hunting in the garden for their eggs. They were definitely free range chickens wandering around our large garden and they used to find strange places to nest. They all had names and “Betsy” was my favourite. I finished this painting in Ledbury at “The Ledbury Collective” and I shall be there again in a few weeks for H-Art, Herefordshire Art Week.
