Peacock garden

I began this painting at the Malvern Spring Garden Show and finished it at home afterwards in our little garden and also inside in my studio. Working on a large scale takes longer but allows me to work in more detail and also the large painting makes more of an impact when I am exhibiting.

Painting outside

I enjoy painting “al fresco” when I can because the light is so much better and I can draw inspiration from the colours around me. The pink geraniums are such a bright vivid pink and I have reflected the colour in my painting.

Garden by the sea

Here’s my finished painting of “Garden by the sea”. We have had so much hot weather recently this painting was a perfect expressive reflection of a warm environment at the moment; although I don’t live by the sea, I can imagine what it is like by the coast on a hot summer’s day.

Demonstration of gouache painting for Morton Art Group

Recently I was invited to demonstrate and teach Morton art Group in Lincolnshire. I chose the theme of an imaginary garden by the sea with exotic birds. I asked the group to create their own paintings based on the theme of imaginary gardens but they could choose any location and explore expressive colour pallets. I […]

Surrounded by my paintings

It’s been a whirlwind of activity this month. I have met so many fascinating people from all walks of life but I am glad to be home now where I can concentrate on commissions and enjoy completing my own paintings ready for the next season. I shall also be running some art and dance workshops […]

Hever Castle and gardens Craft and Design show with Craft in Focus

My third and final show of the month was at Hever Castle, the home of Anne Boleyn. Having spent the two previous weeks at shows painting gardens I decided to try something completely different; returning to one of my favourite themes, the seaside. Can you spot the mermaid?

The Malvern Spring Garden show

I have been continuing the garden theme and also experimenting with new compositions. I shall enjoy finishing this painting at home.

Garden Path

Where does this garden lead? This little demonstration piece inspired by the surrounding gardens in Wisley was bought at the end of the day. I can spend days on a painting working into the composition to create fine detail but occasionally I think it’s nice to keep the design fresh.

A View of Honfleur

I think each boat has a character of its own; I wonder if they could talk they could tell us where have they been and what have they seen on their travels…

Painting on my stand

I like to play with perspective, experimenting with unusual view points and changing the dimensions of architecture and boats, thus giving the viewer a challenge. I enjoy expressing my feelings on a place through jaunty angles; hopefully adding some humour and narrative into the composition.
