Garden Path

Where does this garden lead? This little demonstration piece inspired by the surrounding gardens in Wisley was bought at the end of the day. I can spend days on a painting working into the composition to create fine detail but occasionally I think it’s nice to keep the design fresh.

A View of Honfleur

I think each boat has a character of its own; I wonder if they could talk they could tell us where have they been and what have they seen on their travels…

Painting on my stand

I like to play with perspective, experimenting with unusual view points and changing the dimensions of architecture and boats, thus giving the viewer a challenge. I enjoy expressing my feelings on a place through jaunty angles; hopefully adding some humour and narrative into the composition.

My Stand at RHS Wisley with Craft in focus

I have had a busy month exhibiting at three different shows. The first of my spring shows was at the Wisley RHS Gardens with Craft in Focus. This Craft and Design Fair was held over five days and was a great start to the year.

A Morning Cup Of Tea

I love a cup of tea first thing in the morning especially when I have a sea view. For this painting I set up a still life and experimented with a new expressive colour palette of pinks, purples, oranges and greens.

The Hares and the Frogs

Sometimes before I embark upon a large painting I will make a small study. In this painting based on Aesop’s Fable “The Hare and the Frogs”; I have tried to add a feeling of movement and flight into the composition. You can see the frogs leaping into the water, followed by the hares and behind […]

Marble Wood

This commission which I began before Christmas is finally finished. It will be exciting to deliver it to the owners who have waited patiently for it to be completed. The final details and finishing touches are important and can’t be rushed but it is very satisfying when these small painterly things have been done, such […]

A Cornish cliff top walk

Walking over the cliff tops is such a pleasure at any time of the year but especially beautiful in spring when the wild flowers begin to emerge in the hedge rows. When I am walking through our woods, I reflect on these times. We have a planned trip to the coast soon and I shall […]

The Donkey and the Horse

There are many “Aesops fables” to choose from and I found it hard to choose which to one illustrate next. I began to paint this particular fable by demonstrating for an art group. There are various ways to interpret this fable and I have discovered some different versions which have come from the original story […]

Commission of “Rewilding of a woodland”

I have nearly finished this commission and I just need to add a few fine details to the painting. I love working at my easel but when I need to add delicate details such as whiskers on a fox, eyes and individual leaves on a tree, I find it easier to work at my drawing […]
